linn meyers

linn meyers (b. 1968, Washington, D.C.) sees her work as an act of resistance to the ever-increasing speed and scale of the world in which we are living, dedicating herself to an unhurried, deliberate approach to image-making. Her paintings and drawings are built from thousands of hand-drawn lines and marks, referencing visual languages such as topographical maps and cosmological charts while foregrounding the presence of the individual mark and the artist's physical labor. For nearly twenty years she has also maintained a drawing practice on vintage graph paper; begun as scaled studies for larger site-specific projects, these drawings evolved into an independent body of work. In 2024, Make Room presented Infinity Loop, a site-specific installation in the gallery's project space [ROOM] in Los Angeles that transformed the graph-paper drawings into a physical environment experienced from within.

Meyers earned her BFA from The Cooper Union and her MFA from California College of the Arts. Her work has been included in exhibitions and permanent collections at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.; the Hammer Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; The Drawing Center, New York; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Baltimore Museum of Art; the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; the Amorepacific Museum of Art, South Korea; and the British Museum, London, among others.

Meyers has received a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, the Anonymous Was A Woman Award, and several grants from the DC Commission on the Arts. She has been artist in residence at the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; the Bemis Center, Omaha; Millay Arts, Austerlitz, NY; the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art; the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ireland; the Hayama residency, Japan; the Iris Project, Los Angeles; Flying Horse Editions, Florida; and the Tamarind Institute, Albuquerque. She divides her time between Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.
