Leo Frontini

Portrait of Leo Frontini

Leo Frontini (b. 2000, Cleveland, Ohio) is a Los Angeles-based painter whose figurative oil paintings depict the interconnection of humans to nature, interpersonal connection, and the self. Grounded in classical academic training in anatomy and draftsmanship, his compositions deliberately compress linear perspective and shift scale, drawing on the buoyancy of Rococo, the dramatic compositions of Rubens and Bruegel, the color of Monet, Vuillard, and Bonnard, and the graphic clarity of Byzantine art. His process avoids static references, combining automatic drawing, composite photographic fragments, and live modeling, often using his own body as reference. Each painting is accompanied by a poem written by the artist, and his recent work extends into hand-finished marble sculpture and glass. His exhibition Everlapsing Interlude at Make Room, Los Angeles (2025) presented dream-like worlds that slip between endings and beginnings, slowing time to foreground the unseen intervals between actions.

Frontini received his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles (2023). Solo exhibitions include Everlapsing Interlude, Make Room, Los Angeles (2025); On the Corner of, Albertz Benda, New York (2025); Of Awe & Humility, 1969 Gallery, New York (2024); Portae, Albertz Benda, New York (2024); and Scenes from Nature, GR2 Gallery (2023). In 2026 he presents Yields of Fray, an exhibition of new paintings and sculpture at SPARC* Spazio Arte Contemporanea, Venice, running concurrently with the 61st Venice Biennale. Group presentations include the Dallas Art Fair (2025), Artists for LA Relief, Make Room, Los Angeles (2025), Untitled Art, Miami (2024), and Painters of Modern Life II, Casa Cardinal, Ibiza (2024). His work is held in the collections of the Bridgehampton Museum, New York; the Burger Collection, Hong Kong; and the Miettinen Collection. Press coverage includes Whitehot Magazine and Numéro Netherlands.
