Julie Yeo

Julie Yeo (b. 1987, Los Angeles) lives and works in Los Angeles, where she explores absence and return through ceramic self-portraits. After emerging from a decade-long episode of PTSD-induced dissociative amnesia, Yeo began constructing self-portraits to surround herself with familiarity, each vessel acting as a signal fire beckoning her spirit, whom she calls Ghoul, home. Using fire and earth, she builds tender, fractured forms that are neither fixed nor resolved: sites of yearning, grief, and becoming, through which she negotiates between a self long in hiding and one slowly expanding into the fullness of itself.

Yeo earned her MFA from New York University (2019) and her BFA from ArtCenter College of Design (2013). Solo exhibitions include I Am The Demon My House Is Exorcising, Make Room, Los Angeles (2026), and Danger Zone, 80WSE Gallery, New York (2018). Group exhibitions include Moved/Displaced, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art/Skowhegan Alliance, Santa Ana (2024); Halos, Lipscomb University, Nashville (2023); The Breathing Project, The Living Gallery, New York (2021); Love 2020, LeRoy Neiman Gallery, New York (2020); and exhibitions at the Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena. She has participated in art fair presentations at Felix Art Fair, Tryst Art Fair, and the LA Art Show.

Yeo has been a resident at Yaddo, the Vermont Studio Center (2023), and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2014), is on the White Columns Artist Registry, and received the Martin Wong Foundation Scholarship (2018). Her work has been featured in publications including Friend of the Artist and Art Maze Mag.
