Austin Hayman

Austin Hayman (b. 1989, Santa Monica, CA) is a self-taught figurative painter based in Los Angeles. Raised in Santa Rosa, California, he works in oil, focusing on body language, expression, and singular moments in time, drawing his subjects from the everyday textures of his life in Los Angeles and the wine country where he grew up. His paintings depict people he knows in the rooms they actually inhabit, surrounded by the objects that belong to them; memory, in his work, organizes itself not around landmark occasions but around the unremarkable and the repeated. He approaches a painting the way one approaches a song, trusting and revising his works over time and rarely abandoning a canvas.

His solo exhibitions include Looking for a Friend, Make Room, Los Angeles (2026), and I Won't Say Anything At All, Allgorithim Gallery. Group exhibitions include Rise 2, Allgorithim Gallery, and Inherent Manifest, Gambit Gallery, New York. In 2025, his painting The Portrait was shortlisted for the Jackson's Art Prize; in 2024 he was featured in Portrait Artists of the Year by Artit Publication and created the album cover for Hello Seahorse and Dear Boy's My, My.
